Marigold Slouch (Knit Pattern)

Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn (Lion Brand Yarn – Vanna’s Choice in “Mustard”)
- Size 7US (4.5mm) dpn’s
- Size 9US (5.5mm) 16” circular needle
- Size 9US (5.5mm) dpn’s
- Cable Needle
- Tapestry Needle
- Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:
- dpn’s: double pointed needles
- k: knit
- p: purl
- sts: stitches
- kfb: knit in front and back of stitch
- Cable 6 Back: Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K3 from left-hand needle, then knit the 3 sts from cable needle
- Cable 6 Front: Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, P3 from left-hand needle, then knit the 3 sts from cable needle
- Cable 4 Back: Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K2 from left-hand needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle
- Cable 4 Front: Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, P2 from left-hand needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle
Gauge:
4-4.5 sts = 1” (in Stockinette Stitch)

Pattern:
Using smaller dpn’s, cast on 112 sts. (Place marker.)
Work 7 rows in 1×1 rib. (k1, p1)
Switch to circular needle and work one increase row as follows: *k6, kfb* repeat around (128 sts)
Rows 1-2: *p4, k12* repeat around
Row 3: *p4, cable 6 back, cable 6 front* repeat around
Rows 4-8: *p4, k12* repeat around
Rows 4-8: *p4, k12* repeat around
Repeat rows 3-8 six more times. (40 pattern rows)
Work rows 3-6 once more.
Work rows 3-6 once more.
Shape Top:
Row 1: *(p2tog) twice, k1, k2tog, k1, (k2tog) twice, k1, k2tog, k1* repeat around (80 sts)

Finishing:
Break off yarn, leaving an 8-10” tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread end through the active stitches on the needle. Pull tight and secure on the inside (wrong side) of hat. Weave in any remaining ends. Hat should look like the picture to the right at this point.
Blocking:
Soak hat in warm water for 20-30 minutes. Stretch hat around a salad plate (or other mostly flat circular object approx 8.5” in diameter), as shown in the pictures below, and allow to dry completely. (Don’t worry if there is a slight crease once it’s dried, that will smooth out with wear.) This keeps the hat from taking on a ribbed appearance (because of the purl stitches between the cables) and will ultimately give it the slouchy shape you’re looking for.

Instructions
**The color striping comes from using varigated yarn**Size J Hook (6.0 mm)
Worsted Weight Yarn
1. Ch 2. 10 DC in second ch from hook. Join with a sl st to the first dc.
2. Ch 1. Work 2 dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to the first dc.(20 dc)
** at this point, your circle should measure 2.5" across **
3. Ch 1. Work 2 dc in the first stitch. Work 1 dc in the next stitch. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch. Work 1 dc in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (30)
4. Ch 1. Work 2 dc in the first stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 2 stitches. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 2 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (40)
** at this point, your circle should measure a tad under 5" across ....if it is less by at least a half inch, increase to a K hook and start over (you crochet tighter than me)...if it is more by at least a half inch, drop to an I hook and start over (you crochet looser than me)**
5. Ch 1. Work 2 dc in the first stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 3 stitches. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 3 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (50)
** at this point, your circle should measure approx 6" across **
6. Ch 1. Work 2 dc in the first stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 4 stitches. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch. Work 1 dc in each of the next 4 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (60)
** at this point, your circle should measure approx 7" across **

Materials
One Skein (approx. 120 yds Super Bulky (size 6)
Size P hook (11.00 mm)
Scissors
Blunt needle
Stitches Used
Chain Stitch (ch): Wrap the yarn over the hook in a counterclockwise direction. Draw the yarn through to form a new loop without tightening the previous one.
Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook in next stitch as indicated by pattern instructions, yarn over and draw through the stitch and loop on hook to complete the stitch.
Single crochet (sc): Insert hook in next stitch as indicated by pattern instructions, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through both loops on hook to complete stitch.
Double crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch or space as indicated by pattern instructions, draw up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through the remaining loops to complete stitch.

1. With P HOOK, Ch 3. Work 10 dc in the last chain from the hook. Join with a sl st to the beginning ch. (10 dc)

Pom-Pom
If you have a Pom Pom maker, create a pomp om close to 3” in size. Attach to the top of the hat with a blunt needle and scrap yarn.
If you do not have a pom-pom maker….find a stray piece of stiff cardboard and cut a 3” square.
Wrap yarn around the square 100 times.
Carefully slide the yarn off the square and tie a piece of scrap yarn around the middle. Tie it tight and be sure to leave a tail for sewing onto the hat.
Take your scissors and cut thru the loops of yarn on each end. Shake to fluff out. Trim long strays as necessary.
Sew onto hat with a blunt needle.
